WANT TO MAKE HISTORY?

Resorts World Sentosa is on track to open in early 2010. Our very first event will take place in just a few months. Want to be a part of this exciting occasion? Wait no longer! The RWS HR team invites you for a chance to be a part of the pioneer team.

We’re looking for part-time F&B folks to be waiters/waitresses, cooks, etc. Come help us serve up delightful dishes and prepare the freshest ingredients for a sumptuous meal. And I don’t mean to boast, but we have attractive hourly rates and fun@work is compulsory. Singaporeans and PRs only! (note: foreign students that are eligible to work under MOM’s Work Pass exemption policy can also apply.)

FYI, the fun doesn’t stop at our inaugural event. During the year, we’ll have an exciting lineup of events around the resort. Feel free to let us know that you’re interested in working during the year too (school holidays, weekends, etc). For a flavor of what’s to come, check out the images below.

Update on Croupier Training in Manila

Last time I blogged about the croupiers getting caught in one of the worst typhoons in Manila’s history. Just a few days ago, I found that that they really can’t get enough of (or get away from) the water. The croupiers took a trip to Villa Escudero for some sun and fun. Have a look:

Happy smiling people

Water Rafting – waiting for the rafts

Water Rafting – getting on the rafts (don’t fall in!!)

Carabao Ride

Other highlights include lunch at the waterfalls, a cultural show, and fishing! We heard that no one actually caught any fish. No worries, croupiers. Just stick to your full-time jobs! That will keep our visitors at the Resorts World Casino very happy.

That’s all I have for now. Chat again soon.

Powering away with the recruitment

Still looking to join RWS? Guess what?

That’s right. The RWS HR team put together another recruitment drive at Suntec Convention Centre on Oct 12 & 13. Psst, this way for a sneak peak at our recruitment drive. The entire foyer of the second floor ballroom was lined with candidates filling in applications for jobs in Retail (Sales Associates), F&B (Waiter/Waitress, Commis Cook, Bartender) and Universal Studios Singapore® (Crew).

Some candidates even received immediate job offers. Welcome to the RWS family!!

If you missed this round, we are still accepting applications. You can write us at careers@rwsentosa.com, surf our job descriptions at www.rwsentosa.com/careers, or visit us at any of our recruitment talks. Our HR folks will be at e2i (141 Redhill Road) at 2pm this Wed (Oct 21), next Wed (Oct 28) and next Thurs (Oct 29).

Not even a typhoon will stop us from opening in early 2010

Enough of that recruitment talk. What happens after a candidate is hired into the RWS family? Training, obviously. We’ve been busy prepping our staff for our early 2010 opening. Not to get you all excited or anything, but our doors will be opening very very soon. (In fact, our first event will happen even before our early 2010 opening! Click here for more details.)

I digress - I really want to share a little insider info about the croupier training in Manila. As some of you might already know, we’ve been sending hundreds of croupiers to our Genting casino in Manila for hands-on training.

However, as many of you probably already know, Manila was also recently hit by one of the biggest tropical storms in its entire history. Needless to say, our croupiers were also affected.

Before our croupiers realized how severe the storm was, they were still happily taking pictures and having a bit of fun with the strong winds/rain.

The aftermath of the storm

This is an account by one of our trainers, Wendy C:

“On the weekend that Tropical Storm Ketsana hit (26 September 2009), the Resorts World croupiers were due to go on a group outing to the Tagaytay Highlands [for the uninitiated, Tagaytay is a volcanic highland resort with cool weather, nice mountainous views, trekking, river activities and horse riding]. Our plans were cancelled after the storm drenched Manila with very heavy rain and strong winds. The storm flooded parts of the city, including the area where our croupiers are staying, and knocked out the water and electricity at their apartments.

"We worked closely with our partners in Manila to deliver drinking water to the croupiers at their apartments and made sure we kept in regular contact with them. We also arranged for their cooks to prepare and deliver meals, both lunch and dinner, to the croupiers for a whole week after the storm.

"Over and above, we also gave the name list of all our trainees to the Singapore Embassy in the Philippines in the event of a worsening of the situation and a need for evacuation."

We are glad that our croupiers are safe and are very satisfied with their progress in the mastery of multiple table games & chip handling. However, we are exceptionally pleased with their contributions to the residents of Manila.

After the disaster, our kind croupiers raised money to help Filipinos who were affected by the storm. They raised a total of 52,690 Pesos and donated to the needy. There was even a  youtube video of our trainees rescuing cars from the flood!

Their outstanding behavior in the face of a crisis makes us very proud to have them as part of the RWS family.

Back to the old school

Been pretty occupied with university recruitment talks lately.  So far, I've met some great undergrads.  One of their favourite questions is, "What can I do?"  So in return, I asked one of them, "Well, what sounds good to you?"

And his reply was, "Everything!  I just want to be part of this."

I love meeting people like that.  The enthusiasm is infectious.

The RWS Management Trainee Program

Many undergrads that I spoke to were looking for management trainee programs with RWS.  However, I explained that our formal programs would only be rolled out after our opening, when we reached a more steady state of operation.

Right now, our sights are focused on opening up the resort.  We’re still on track for an early-2010 opening, which is really only a few months away!!

Part-time Jobs

Although we haven’t started our management training program yet, we encourage current students to use our part-time jobs as stepping stones in preparation for a full-time career at our IR.

Training starts prior to our opening and will be fully paid for.  To further sweeten the deal, we offer attractive part-time rates for hospitality jobs, and those that work night shifts will also be sent to their nearest bus stop after work (as close to home as you can get)!

The positions are:

1.       Waiter/Waitress
2.       Bellman
3.       Sales Associate (Universal Studios Singapore)
4.       Crew (Universal Studios Singapore)
5.       Traffic Warden

Especially if you’re a first or second year student with the luxury of few years before graduation, consider these part-time jobs.  You can work in between classes, during holidays, weekends… the hours are flexible!

Try your hand at any of our numerous F&B outlets during one of your vacations, and then move to any of our six themed hotels the next.  And if you’re game, you could top it off with a Universal Studios experience.

Before you know it, you’d have created the entire IR experience for yourself!  When you’re ready to interview for your full-time position, you can tell us with confidence that you know exactly what it takes to work at our IR.

Think about this:  If we had to choose between two candidates for a full-time job, who would we pick?  The candidate with the RWS work experience?  Or the one without?

I’m all about the full-time…

You might be a December ’09 graduate or available for immediate hire, so you’d rather delve straight into a full-time job at RWS.  Completely understandable.  We’d like to highlight a couple of full-time job opportunities:

1.       Croupier
2.       Guest Services Ambassador (GSA)

Our croupier and GSA jobs are not easy.  Croupiers need to master several different table games, be strong at mental calculations, have good finger dexterity, and be sharp and alert.  Our GSAs are involved in Casino Marketing, and need to be poised (they represent our glamourous Resorts World Casino) and have great interpersonal skills (they manage anyone from regular guests to members to VIPs).

How to Apply

If you’re interested in the part-time and full-time opportunities mentioned in this post, do apply online at www.rwsentosa.com/careers or email us at careers@rwsentosa.com, clearly indicating the position you are interested in.

If you think that you might be better suited for other full-time opportunities, then you can also visit our careers website for the full range of options.  As a side note, if your graduation date is some time next year or several years out and you’re ONLY looking for full-time opportunities, do apply with us closer to your graduation date.

Tying up the odds and ends from Aug 22/23

Btw, we're almost done short-listing and conducting all interviews from the Aug 22/23 recruitment drive.  If you know anyone who’s still waiting on us, they probably were not shortlisted for the position that they applied for.

However, we still encourage them to apply for other RWS positions that they qualify for!

That’s all for now.  Talk soon!

Hello World!

Hi everybody and welcome to the RWS HR blog! Through this blog, I hope that you will get to know our HR team a little better and find out what goes on behind the scenes to build up our fast-expanding RWS family.

I'm sure I've met some of you before, either when we chatted at career fairs or when I presented at recruitment talks. My main responsibility at RWS is to help in planning the resort-wide recruitment strategy, which comprises partnering organisations to bring in our talent pool all the way to the details of logistics planning for recruitment events. If you see me at future recruitment events, please feel free to ask me questions or just say hi!

I joined RWS because I wanted to be in the centre of the action and buzz of creating this Sentosa IR. So far, I have not been disappointed. Things move very fast around here so that definitely keeps me on my toes. I'm constantly challenged to come up with solutions for situations that I've never encountered before, and flexibility is my new middle name. Honestly, I never imagined that Shrek would one day be my colleague or that I'd be learning the rules of pai gow on my lunch break (all in the name of work, of course).

As many of you know by now, RWS will be opening in early 2010. By the end of the year, we plan to be 8,000-strong! In order to track down the best possible team members, we participated in several major career fairs, which include Career & Education 2009 and our June recruitment drive at Suntec.

We also recently concluded August walk-in interviews for our operational positions, which saw almost 16,000 job seekers persevering in the long lines and all sorts of tropical weather tribulations. We'd like to take this time to thank everyone that stopped by and for your very overwhelming interest to be part of RWS.

For those that didn't secure an interview during the August 22 or 23 walk-in interview sessions, we are in the process of conducting interviews and regret that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If you haven't heard from us after two months, we encourage you to seek out other job opportunities either in RWS or other organisations. If you are still awaiting the results of your interviews and/or offer letters, do be patient with us. We are processing thousands of applications/offers every week and working as fast as we can!

Meantime, keep your eyes and ears peeled for available job opportunities that are constantly updated on our RWS careers page (www.rwsentosa.com/careers). Also, come join us at any of our recruitment talks that are organised through our partners and various institutions & corporations. On September 30 at 1:30pm, we will be presenting at e2i’s Integrated Resorts industry preview (www.e2i.com.sg to register and for more information). Come say hi!

See you soon.

Karen.
